• RULES

o 1.1. The Organizing Authority for the Rum Bottle Regatta Series is the Poor Man’s Yacht Club ? (PMYC). The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2016 (RRS), this Notice of Race (NOR) and any official notices posted on the PMYC web site (www.pmyc.net). ?

o 1.2. For this event emphasis on the following three RRS shall be adhered to.

o 1.2.1. Starboard-tack boats have rights over port-tack boats. Rule 10 ?

o 1.2.2. Windward boats shall keep clear of leeward boats when an overlap exists. Rule 11. ?

o 1.2.3. A boat passing a second boat shall keep clear of the boat being passed. Rule 12. ?

o 1.2.4. We are all here for fun and to finish. DON’T hit anyone or anything. ?

• 1.3. For handicap racing, the mid-range United States Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (USPHRF) rules, as modified by the PMYC, and this Notice of Race shall apply.

o 1.3.1. The use of a spinnakers results in 2% added to your handicap. ?

o 1.3.2. Singlehanded sailors receive a 2% credit. ?

o 1.3.3. All female crews will receive an appropriate credit. ?

• ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY ? 2.1. The regatta is open to everyone.

o 2.1.1. For PMYC members in good standing the entry fee is included in your yearly dues. ?

o 2.1.2. Non-PMYC members, there is a $20.00 fee per boat, or two bottles of rum approved ? by the Primary Race Officer (PRO). Just Join. ?

o 2.2. Associate member crew is always welcome if you don’t have a boat. (If you’re providing ? libations that won’t hurt) ?

o 2.3. Sign up prerace at on PMYC.net

• 2.3.1. Include boat name, make, size, keel type (fin, wing, shallow) and prop type (2 or 3 blade, fixed, feathering or folding).
• 2.4. The race may be divided into a section for singlehanded and a section for crewed boats. (Depending on the trophy donations)
• 2.5. PMYC powerboat members are asked to volunteer as race committee or spectator boats.
• 3. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS ? 3.1. The course will be either a 2 or 3 leg race within 10nm of Monroe Harbor.
• 3.1.1. If the race is to be a distance challenge, it will be announced on the PMYC web site. 1

• 3.1.2. Based on weather, the final course will be decided the morning of the race.
• 3.2. The starting sequence will be announced at the Skippers Meeting with the higher ?handicapped boats starting first.
• 3.3. The start will be a running start, with approximately 5 minute spacing between boats. Only ?one boat starts at a time, and your start time is recorded as you cross the start line.
• 3.4. Upon proper completion of the course, your finish time will be recorded when crossing the ?finish line.
• 3.5. Protest must be announced to the committee boat upon completion of the course.
• 3.5.1. Protests are discouraged as this is a club social event.?3.5.1.1. Any protest announced will be decided upon by the PRO and PMYC officers.
• SCHEDULE OF EVENTS ?
• 4.1. Races will be held the June 18th, July 9th and September 17th in Chicago.
• 4.1.1. Date revisions will be posted on the PMYC web site.
• 4.2. Final registration will take place on the North Wall of Monroe Harbor between 8:00am and 8:30am the morning of the race.
• 4.2.1. Skippers/crew meeting will take place at 8:45am.
• 4.2.2. Boats head out between 9:00am and 10:00am.
• 4.3. Prizes will be awarded at the party following the race on the North Wall of Monroe Harbor.
• DOCKING
• 5.1. A limited amount of docking space is available on the North Wall of Monroe Harbor ?requiring all boats to allow rafting wherever possible.
• 5.2. Non-Monroe Harbor boats may be required to register with the Harbor Master in order to ?dock.
• DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY ? 6.1. Competitors participate in this regatta entirely at their own risk. The race organizers

(PMYC, sponsors or any other organization or official) will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. By participating in this race, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
